Drone fly to ID if possible. - Eristalis hirta

Drone fly to ID if possible. - Eristalis hirta
Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
August 25, 2007
I've posted a couple of Eristalis flies in the past but this one looked a lot paler in color. Managed a couple of shots of it. Any further information would be helpful, thank you.

Moved from Eristalis.

I think this most resembles E
I think this most resembles Eristalis arbustorum. It looks quite similar to E. tenax but the body of E. tenax tends to be more opaque and E. tenax has a thick black line in the center of the face. E. arbustorum has an all white face, which I can't really see.

Fly ID
Thank you Stephen for the ID, I appreciate it. Would the female be bigger than the male?

I think the females are large
I think the females are larger than the males but the way to tell is that the eyes meet at the top in the males and are separated in the females. This works for most flys, but not all, as in some cases the difference in distance between the eyes of males and females is slight.

Fly ID
Thanks again for the info. Stephen. I did get a couple of images of a larger fly and the eyes are further apart, so I did get the male and the female. Thanks again
