So far I have never seen Microtomus luctuosus in Austin.

i see them every night
they usually hang out high up the wall, close to the bottom plank of the 2nd floor siding -- they hide under it during the day, it seems (along with the geckos, the triatomines, and a number of larger beetle spp)
more adventurous ones can be found within unaided reach, though --even on the porch floor

they are also regularly encountered under peeling bark of dead trees
