Caterpillar sp. - Papilio polyxenes
City of Virginia Beach; Back Bay NWR, n/a County, Virginia, USA
July 4, 2017
Size: ~1 in
Caterpillar on mock's bishop weed (Ptilimnium capillaceum)at edge of tidal freshwater community. At first glance thought it was a monarch, but lacked antennae/tentacles. Thought perhaps a swallowtail, but can't seem to match up. Sorry, couldn't get a ventral photo.
