American Snout egg - Libytheana carinenta

American Snout egg - Libytheana carinenta
London, Middlesex, Ontario, Canada
July 6, 2017
Size: 0.5 mm
I watched the female Snout lay this egg in my backyard today. I've lived at this house for more than 30 years and have never seen an American Snout here before, so this was very special! She seemed to prefer laying her eggs on tender new shoots of Hackberry.

I have seen American Snout Butterflies in London, Ontario before, but rarely. They can be fairly common some years at Point Pelee National Park (2 hours south of here).
