Robberfly? - Mallophora fautrix

Robberfly? - Mallophora fautrix
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
August 26, 2007
Size: 1 1/8 "
I came upon this guy resting on a chain link fence and at first thought it was a Bumblebee . His gangly appearance and sneaky eyes reminded me of a Robberfly , but his wavy hairdoo surprised me . He looks like a mean bug , but he was nice enough to let me take several photos although I was prepared to run if he moved ! Is he a type of Robberfly ? Thanks for any comments , Beth .. the newbie shutterbug
