Walking stick - Parabacillus coloradus - female

Walking stick - Parabacillus coloradus - Female
Stansbury mountains, Tooele County, Utah, USA
August 26, 2007
Size: 2.5"
Found this little guy crossing the road. I think it is a male but I really don't know. Any ideas as to the species or genus? I was very excited to find it as I have never seen one in person.

Parabacillus sp., male.
This is one of the two 'short-horned' walkingstick species in North America. Both occur in Utah, I believe, so I can't conclude for you which one it is. Claspers at tip of abdomen would indicate a male. Very nice find as these are exceptionally cryptic grass mimics. One time a kid pointed one out to me on the doorjam of an outhouse in eastern Oregon and I almost still didn't see it:-)
