Good to have images of a female, and a record for this far southern US station.

This is clearly a female, from the two semi-circular, many-spined, acanthophorites at the terminal tip of the abdomen.

It keys to P. californica in Hardy(1950), and agrees well with the description of the female on pg. 14 there. Some diagnostic characters are: elongate proboscis; black legs and terga 3 to 6 (at least) red; terminal segment of antennae black, posterior corners of terga and legs lacking any white tomemtum, thorax dull (vs. shining) black.

The location is also reasonable for P. californica: note that Hardy gives a record from Westmoreland, Imperial Co., CA; and Fitzgerald & Kondratieff(1995) give records from east of Calexico, Imperial Co., CA; and San Felipe, Baja California Norte. Though further west, the Yuha Cut-off locale here is in general the same region and habitat.
