Definitely one of the most common ants I saw in the woodland where I was photographing. Apparently nests in rotting wood? I say that because I thought I saw some running into the logs. Thanks in advance.

Asian Needle Ant, invasive. Brachyponera chinensis (formerly Pachycondyla chinensis). And yes they do nest in dead wood.
