Line Drawings of Philorus californicus
Hi Joyce. I've recently been searching out and reading lots of refs on "blephs" (& adding bibliographic entries to info pages).

Here's a link to a nice line drawing of the pupa for P. californicus.

Also, I'm thinking at least part of the reason Greg Courtney suggested the liklihood of P. californicus here is due to the published records & ranges for the various species...e.g. see the maps and distributions given in Hogue(1)(1973). In particular, P. californicus has a record from the Yuba River near Sierra City, and it seems like Sierran records for P. yosemite are all from Yosemite and points south...while the other species (jacinto and vanduzeei) appear to be localized in southern California.

That said, the key to pupae and pupal figure for P. yosemite in Hogue(1966) also seem to support P. californicus here.

Philorus
From Greg Courtney via Martin Hauser:
"Bleph’s are a mixed bag. Larvae & adults look like Agathon comstocki, but the pupa is Philorus (probably californicus). It’s not unusual to find these at the same site."
