Tabanid - Copestylum mexicanum - Female

Size: ~2 cm
This guy stayed only long enough for one shot, not in great focus, he is pretty much all black. Live oak/chaparral habitat. Possibly Tabanus atratus?

Syrphid Fly
As evidenced by wing venation. This habitus suggests a Copestylum mexicana (Vollucellini).
