Fly with Long Legs - Stylogaster

Tracys Landing, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
July 27, 2017
Maybe a hanging the thief but it wasn't hanging. It flew from leaf to leaf and always assumed this position.

Reminds us of Stylogaster

One of the specialists will be able to answer with more certainty.

Thanks. It does look like that.
It does look like a male stylogaster. There were several around this plant, a Joe Pye Weed. I wish I had taken photos of more than one of them, maybe I would have seen a female. Unfortunately it is thundering and pouring rain all day today.

Yesterday was overcast, hot and humid, and I had just watered this plant if that helps. It didn't seem to be there to drink the water though.
