White moth 080217bar - Diaphania costata
Arkansas River Valley, Barling, Sebastian County, Arkansas, USA
August 2, 2017

Moved
Moved from Palpita.

Diaphania costata or Kimball's palpita?
On second thoughts, Diaphania costata is just as likely.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Possibly which can be seen in Oklahoma, but I would not be comfortable making that species identification.

Ann, note comments from Steve Nanz at

.
Cliff, I cannot call this one even with Steve's help. It is hard enough with a very clear image, and yours is blurred. It does look like it is a male from the thickened antenna bases. I did not realize that P. costata can have spots at cell.

If I read Steve's comments correctly he thinks, as I do that it is hard to rule out the more common P. quadristigmalis.

I have been looking for P. costata here and finally decided I don't have it although some specimens give me pause.

I've had them in my yard
but this one appeared to be rather large. Maybe well fed when a caterpillar.

Not up to date on locale issue but this specimen appears to be a good fit.
