Casebearer pupa - Exema canadensis Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA August 12, 2007 Size: about 3 mm
I was able to tear the case open without damaging the pupa. After the photo shoot I rolled a small-diameter tube of tissue around a small watercolor brush handle and inserted the pupa, placing the roll and pupa in a glass vial. I unrolled the tissue yesterday and saw the pupa alive and well, gyrating vigorously in its new "case." I rolled it up again and hope to see an adult one of these days.
