Amblyomma? Female? - Amblyomma maculatum

Amblyomma? Female? - Amblyomma maculatum
Nogales, Santa Cruz County, Arizona, USA
August 1, 2017
Size: 5.5 mm
Caught by sweeping vegetation
Coordinates: 31.337886, -110.963926
To me, it closely resembled a female Amblyomma maculatum.

A new species for BugGuide?!
I submitted two photos in this series to TickEncounter Resource Center and they replied as follows: "Though we can't be absolutely certain without a microscope, this tick is most likely an adult female Amblyomma triste tick based on the geographic location, and tapered mouthparts. This tick has only recently been recognized in Arizona and western Texas, and is considered to be a vector of Rickettsia parkeri rickettsiosis in humans. You can read more about this emerging disease here. Your photo is phenomenal."

very nice
I am unfamiliar with this species; other AZ A. maculatum on BG should be revisited as this species.

Thank you Belov, Graham, Blaine and
anyone else who appreciates me taking the risk of contracting an emerging disease while hunting down and imaging this interesting beast. I know, I am being a tad melodramatic... :-)
I only wish I could devote more of my time to contribute to this incredible resource called BugGuide.

Well done!
Great photos of a cool species, Salvatore!

fantastic -- thanks for another addition, Salvatore!
