Argus tortoise beetle - Chelymorpha cassidea

Argus tortoise beetle - Chelymorpha cassidea
Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA
August 19, 2004
I believe this is an Argus tortoise beetle (milkweed tortoise beetle),Chelymorpha cassidea.

Only species in east, apparently
Chelymorpha cassidea seems to be the only species in the east, except for a doubtful Florida endemic. I've documented this in the guide page for the genus, as best as I can piece together from print and Internet references. (I'm always ready to stand corrected, of course.)
