Glaphyria sequistrialis w/Extra - Glaphyria sesquistrialis

Glaphyria sequistrialis w/Extra - Glaphyria sesquistrialis
Montrose, Laurens County, Georgia, USA
September 15, 2016
This is most unusual-looking. I don't think it's fungus because there were tiny, near transparent creatures crawling around on it. Possible parasites? It looks more like a structure rather than a growing object.

I learned something too!

The structures are pollen sacs and attachment structures
called pollinaria

Hmmm,
yeah, I get it, now. Never saw the phenomenon before, which is a bit surprising given the number of moths and butterflies I have photographed over the past 40 years. Thanks, folks!

Orchid pollinaria?
They look like the dipictions of orchid pollinaria figured at right on this BugGuide glossary page.
(I'd like to see those in the field...I'm more familiar with milkweed pollinaria.)

.
Very interesting information!
