Robber fly
I believe it is a Stichopogon trifasciatus. It is interesting the variations and depth of color across the nation's populations of this fly (looking for images of "three banded robber fly"). I would love to watch the male mating ritual...Asilidae males are known for their mating rituals, so I have heard. And I believe, the larger of the two shown here, is the male.
