corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea)
It is certainly corn earworm (Helicoverpa zea). One of the uncommon day flying moths that seek flower nectar. I would get regular visits to my butterfly garden from this species, but never more than one at a time even though there were corn fields nearby. The larvae can mature on many types of plants, not just corn. Supposedly the larvae bite, and will cannibalize other corn ear worms. In my opinion it is a great addition to a butterfly garden. Nice photos by the way!
