Size of photo submitted

Why are you requesting that the photo be so small..... I have tried 3 times to submit images... these were shot with my cell phone camera.. barely 2mb..

reason for large image?
Why would you need a 2MB image?
I just posted an ant image which shows fine detail, even hairs.
This image is 42 KB: 42,000 bytes

How would such an image benefit by being 2,000,000 bytes?

I'm just curious!
