Can I assume this is a variation of the same species, or is it a different species?

I unlinked your images, as linking is reserved for different views of the same specimen. This is a Meadow Spittlebug. The other one may be the same species (it's quite variable) but I'm not quite as certain about that one so I'm leaving it at the family level for now.
