Size: 2 cm
Is this the European Corn Borer Moth or the American Lotus Borer Moth? It has features close to both, but seems to be closer to the American Lotus.

I have checked the Moth Photographers Group and can see that this possibly is a better match. I did not consider it before because the photos on BugGuide are very limited for this species. I have a slightly different angle for this moth.

 
Traverse lines
Like you, I'm always reluctant to place something with so few specimens to compare. That said, all the traverse lines match Mark Dreiling's DNA supported specimen. MPG distribution chart is good for August in Michigan.
