Chauliognathus lecontei?
Could these be C. lecontei instead of profundus? Margarethe Brummermann recently pointed out to me that C. profundus has a black head, compared to the red head of C. lecontei.

I bet you and Margarethe are right. At least all the rest of the images posted on BG for both species follow that rule.
