Could this be a Caloptilia?
Could this be a Caloptilia?

It sure is suggestive of a Caloptilia roll...
but I would want to see an associated leaf mine to say for sure. The only leafminers known from soybean are several hispine leaf beetles and polyphagous Liriomyza spp.

Actually, there was a Lepidopteran pupa in one of the rolls--it was parasitized, but definitely a moth pupa. I suppose it could be that a different species of moth moved into an already rolled leaf to pupate?

No question that a moth made the roll...
it's just possible that it could have been some kind of full-time leafroller rather than a Caloptilia. I don't suppose you have the pupa or a photo of it? A Caloptilia pupa would be very slender and in a cocoon (which is usually spun outside the roll, but not always).

That tells me that this might not be a Caloptilia, as the pupa was slender but outside of a cocoon, and inside the roll. I can keep looking to see if I find others.
