Large robber fly sp. - Promachus sackeni - female

Large robber fly sp. - Promachus sackeni - Female
Miller Peak, Huachuca Mountains, Cochise County, Arizona, USA
July 17, 2007
Size: Medium - About an inch
This large robber fly species had just caught what appears to be an ant. It was near Miller Peak at over 9000' elevation.

Moved
Moved from Robber Flies.

Promachus
Female for sure. But AZ does not have rufipes, hinei or vertebratus (the eastern tiger striped species). It has several others and sackeni may have the same general pattern as these eastern species. Can't be absolutely sure though.
