Spider wasp Entypus unifasciatus cressoni - Entypus unifasciatus - female

Spider wasp Entypus unifasciatus cressoni - Entypus unifasciatus - Female
Bernalillo County, New Mexico, USA
August 15, 2017
Size: 25mm
First observed this wasp on the trail, having just apparently immobilized the wolf spider. It proceeded to grab it by the head or chelicerae and drag it backwards some 18 meters, directly to a concealed burrow into which it pushed the spider and went in afterwards, presumably to lay her egg on the still living spider. The trip was completed in about 9 min, pretty fast travel through a tangle of grasses and forbs.
