reddish bug - Leptoglossus

Size: .25"
This bug was part of a small army covering a group of wild flowers and weeds at the edge of my fathers garden. They were very small, about 1/4 of an inch, bright reddish orange with black legs, antennea and little spikes on the back. This shot is best pic I could manage since they also never, ever stopped moving. Hope it's enough!

These are leaf-foot bug nymphs
I had these in my garden this past month, and not knowing whether they were leaf-foot bugs (not good in an organic garden) or assassin bug nymphs (most excellent in an organic garden), I let them become themselves. And they became voracious leaf-foot bugs!

But they sure are cute little nymphs.

thanks for responding! i just put another pic up on these guys, one showing a group, if you're interested. i really appreciate everyones' help on the ids! this may be a silly question but they will go ahead and feel free to use these pics in the general pictures once someone ids them won't they? i hope so! thanks again! B

You should try going to the same spot in a few days to see if you can find the adults - they usually do not stray far. Then maybe we can identify the species.
You can move these images to the Leptoglossus section of the guide by clicking the "tag all" link - when they show up on the upper left, surf to Leptoglossus in the guide, go to the Images tab, and click "move tagged images". It's helpful to move your own images after they have been ID'd to make less work for the bugguide personnel. Thanks for contributing your images to the guide!
