Underwing sp - Catocala

Underwing sp - Catocala
Burgess Junction, Big Horn County, Wyoming, USA
August 22, 2017
Size: 7 cm
This was, by far, the largest underwing moth I've ever seen! It was on Canada thistle that was infested with aphids. Could it be that it was attracted by honeydew from the aphids? The aphids can be seen on the stem of the thistle in both photos. (44.77695N, 107.44097W, 2500m).
