I discovered a new species of moth and it's big and it bites!!!

I found a big moth and it bit me need help ID cause I think it bit my friend's horse too!! Can I name it because I discovered it?

Tabanus atratus?
Certainly no moth if it really did bite.

Do you have a photo? How do you know it's new?
Moths can't bite. They lack the mouthparts to bite. Sphinx moth do sometimes have large spines on their legs though.
