Diervilla, mine #3

Diervilla, mine #3
Twin Springs Park, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
August 31, 2017
Collected 08/24/17 on Diervilla lonicera

Overall the impression I get so far on this mine is that the agromyzid responsible is a fairly small species. This mine

on Symphoricarpos looks somewhat similar. The USDA agromyzid manual lists several species on the Caprifoliaceae but none specifically on Diervilla.

Diervilla miners
I have reared one Phytomyza and one Aulagromyza species from Diervilla, but I don't think this is either of them. I suspect a Phytomyza, but will reserve judgment until I see the puparium.

Good to know
Thank you for taking a look at this one and the other two Diervilla mines...I am not surprised that you are well familiar with two of the three! Your leafminer book is going to kick butt.
Neat that the midrib blotch miner is a new species.
The linear mines in this series have gotten a lot longer and bigger in the past couple days so I take back what I said about this seeming like a small agromyzid.
