Huge Bee Fly - Xenox delila

Huge Bee Fly - Xenox delila
Chino Hills State Park, Orange County, California, USA
September 6, 2007
Buzzes around people

Moved from Xenox.

Moved from Bee Flies.

Xenox
This is a Xenox species.

Xenox delila
I checked a key and this is X. delila, based on wing pattern. Unlike other Xenox species, the spot at the base of cell m3 is not connected to the more basal spots.

delila
Thanks!

Thanks, Joel!
Probably so, and you beat me to it; I knew it wasn't simson , which left delila , and habrosus for SoCal, but haven't had time to get the key yet.

Huge Hover Fly
This is a Bombyliidae, not a syrphid.

Thanks!
