Acanthocephala declivis? - Acanthocephala declivis

Acanthocephala declivis? - Acanthocephala declivis
Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana, USA
September 9, 2017
Size: 30 mm
Found at the Indiana Government Center in downtown Indianapolis. This is the largest leaf-footed bug I have ever seen! From a distance, I thought for sure it was Arilus cristatus (Wheel Bug) of which I have seen quite a few lately. Glad I took a closer look! Just to be sure, I browsed all 235 pages of Coreidae images posted on BugGuide and checked several other websites. Unless I am missing something, this appears to be Acanthocephala declivis.

Moved from ID Request.

I have to agree. Unless it hitched a ride north on someone's vehicle, the species may be expanding its range.
