Syrphid fly - Tropidia quadrata

Syrphid fly - Tropidia quadrata
Struve Slough, Santa Cruz County, California, USA
September 4, 2017
This unusual looking fly was found feeding at the wetland flowers growing along the side of Struve Slough. Based on the massive rear femora, I initially thought it was a member of the genus Syritta, but the tubercle at the distal end of the leg segment and striped thorax are wrong for both of the listed NA species. Any assistance in identifying this fly would be greatly appreciated. I am including multiple photos to try and cover a variety of angles.
