Pilophorus - Pilophorus crassipes

Pilophorus - Pilophorus crassipes
Marlton, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
September 8, 2007
I went out this morning to take some pictures in the yard. Saw this cute “ant” on the trash can, maybe drinking dew. I decided to take a couple of quick pictures because it had antennae with white tips. But then I moved on because, “it was just an ant on a trash can”.

I’m now thinking either a Broad-headed Bug (Alydidae)

Or a Plant Bug (Miridae) maybe Pilophorus

Now I wish I had taken some good pictures!

Moved
Moved from Pilophorus.

It looks like Pilophorus crassipes...
The shapes of white band and antennae, the color of the antennae, and the distribution almost match with the description and figures of P. crassipes in Schuh.

Photos are here.

Thanks
!

And . . .
I think, Pilophorus sp. is correct (but sure a different one).

Miridae
A plant bug, Miridae. Note that the wings cover the whole abdomen, but only wingpads are present on the broad-headed bug.
