definately treetop you can tell by black on the top ridge of the wing, and purple-ish color on the bottom of its abdomen.

Do you mean....
Don't you mean Scudderia furcata? That is what this specimen is, at any rate (male), obvious from the excellent shot of the subgenital plate....I STAND CORRECTED! I had never even heard of this species until now. Apologies. I just looked it up on the "Singing Insects of North America" website.

How do you tell the two species apart? In NC, S. furcata is very common. S. fasciata, however has only been collected a handful of times in the state. Is there a reliable way to differentiate between the two? Great images, by the way.

The images I got do look fair
The images I got to look fairly different from the S. furcata shots in Bugguide. They lack the black edging to the wings and the pink abdomen.
