Whorled Coccinellid - Myzia subvittata

Whorled Coccinellid - Myzia subvittata
Newport, Lincoln County, Oregon, USA
September 8, 2007
Found on open sandy beach (Nye Beach) in Newport, on the central Oregon coast

wow -
genus now is completely represented in bugguide!

genus is:
Myzia

species is:
M. subvittata (Mulsant). Myzia only has 3 species north of Mexico, and only M. subvittata and M. interrupta occur west of the Rockies. From Gordon (1), the markings on M. subvittata can vary but are clearly distint from M. interrupta. M. subvittata also has the elytra broadly explannate in front of middle. Range: WA, OR, and CA, and just into BC, ID, and NV.

Terry, you are in a great location for unique ladybird beetles. Nice addition, and keep those photos comming! This completes the genus, and another new species for BugGuide :)
