Caliscelidae, fresh nymph - Aphelonema simplex

Caliscelidae, fresh nymph - Aphelonema simplex
Ames, Story County, Iowa, USA
September 13, 2017
Size: .8 mm
A few days ago red eyes were showing through the eggs, but recently the eggs seemed to have lost their vibrancy. I was sure they were going down, in fact one looked as if it was starting to desiccate.

Tonight I was adding a drop of water to the filter paper (under the eggs) when I saw something run. My first thought was: how did that little bug get in there. But then, ah ha. The nymph emerged from the egg I though was drying out (which is not the egg in the previous photo).

Family batch rearing.
