Explanation of Names
Specific epithet mean "olivaceous" for the for the coloring of the thorax and wings. (2)
Size
Forewing length 7.5-9.0 mm. (3)
Wingspan 18 mm. (2)
Range
Records from Illinois and Maryland, north to Maine and Quebec. (4)
Type locality: Illinois (J.R. Muhleman).
Habitat
Prairies. (5)
Season
It is not clear from records of adults on Block Island, RI, whether the species is univoltine or bivoltine there; it may have a single highly asynchronous generation with fresh adults found from June to August and a single peak in abundance in July.(6)
Food
Larva folds leaves and bores into stem tips of Goldenrod Solidago (Riley)
Remarks
Riley reported that the larvae are parisitized by the wasp Pimpla annulipes
