upon further review...
When I identified this specimen in May 2017, I do not believe there was a BugGuide page for Tipula metacomet. This page appears to have been created shortly thereafter per Dr. Jon Gelhaus. Using Dr. Gelhaus and other BugGuide identification cues, I now believe my photos are of Tipula metacomet. The tibia and femur are uniformly dark with no pale sections. Also, the date of this find being May is probably too early for Tipula abdominalis. There are currently only two BugGuide adult listings of Tipula abdominalis prior to June, and I think a closer look at those two submissions might warrant moving them to T. metacomet as well. They were probably put in T. abdominalis before the T. metacomet page was created.

If you're confident that the ID is solid...
...feel free to move the images to the species page. You may also want to add comments to the other submissions you think may be T. metacomet. The fly specialists will determine whether or not those images should be moved.

Thanks Ken! I did not know that we could place images directly to the species page. I thought every submission needed an ID request. Of course, now that I know this, I will only place images on the species page if I am pretty darn confident of the ID. Greatly appreciate BugGuide and people like yourself that put time and expertise into it!
