Nice picture of the ' J ' hooks on the 1st antennal segment
That is a definite marking ONLY for Oecanthus niveus.

Thought for sure these were exclamationis. There don't appear to be any previous records of niveus west of TX?

 
Locations
You were correct in assuming that it was O. exclamationis based on history/locations. There is a known population of them in AZ.

However, this tree cricket definitely has the ' J ' marking of O. niveus, and the orange on the head is too deep to be O. exclamationis.

Thank you for posting this important photo. (I missed it's significance originally, as I relied on poor memory alone and was thinking it was O.niveus with the pocket location in Arizona.)

BTW, I identified an O. niveus in Florida Canyon in AZ several years ago during a visit there I made with several other buggers. At the time (like when I ID'd your photo!), I didn't realize it's importance.
