Hodges #5594.1 - Phidotricha erigens - Phidotricha erigens
Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, USA
September 18, 2017
Size: Forewing ≈7mm
Attracted to black light illuminated sheet. I thought that this is a Pococera, but there is no match in MPG. I am grateful to Brian Scholtens who suggested Phidotricha erigens as ID for this moth. He was so kind to check with experts at the Univ. of Florida and elsewhere and found out that the species is rather common in Florida as far north as Gainesville and has been reported from elsewhere in the SE, sometimes with its synonym Tallula atramentalis. There are already at least two likely BugGuide records for Florida, one posted by Eric Haley from Orlando and the other by me from Tallahassee.

ID confirmed
The ID of this individual was confirmed by DNA barcoding, sample BOLD-3KYQGE0V3.

Moved to Phidotricha erigens
Moved from Epipaschiinae.

Please note correct Hodges is 5594.1 not 5994.1. That may be changed to 5590 which was the number for Tallula atramentalis in the 1983 Hodges checklist.

Thanks for tracking this down. I added your images to MPG and updated the BugGuide page. Nice addition.
