larva upon sticky gum flower

larva upon sticky gum flower
Livermore, Alameda County, California, USA

Size: 1/2" and under
I don't know how any insect could survive in the glue-like stuff on this flower ! I wonder how they don't get stuck and drown in it ? It was a harsh dry landscape with tough weeds in flower . The bees love the yellow flowers of the sticky gum-weed but I was amazed to find a caterpillar or larvae actually eating the glue-like white milky stuff .

Wonder if it is related to this one

Makes us think Schinia. Wagner lists two from the East that feed on Gumweed, S. coercita and S. mortua. You may have yet another out there??
