Hamilton Co

I've bug hunted in Hamilton Co. 3 times since Aug of 2016. Initially, in Aug 2016, we hunted Hamilton County State Park for the Large Grassland Tiger beetle - C. obsoleta and were successful. In the spring of 2017 I stopped one day to look for the claybank tiger beetle species and was successful in finding C. denverensis but not the crown jewel - the Beautiful tiger beetle C. pulchra. In Aug of 2017 we stopped again on our way to CO to look for another tiger beetle species. Didn't find the one I was looking for but did take photos of 2 odes and discovered when I got home that OdonataCentral had zero records for the county. County is wide open for dragonflies. Hunt with a guy from Garden City.

Hunts

We've done a number of hunts together over the past 4 years in Stafford, Barber, Clark, Morton & Hamilton counties. Found some great bugs and had a lot of fun doing it. We are still looking for the Beautiful tiger beetle - C. pulchra in extreme western KS.

I can watch for C. pulchra and any other Tiger Beetles you think might be in Hamilton County. speaking of tiger beetles, in your first comment what tiger beetle species were you looking for in August 2017?

Black Sky

I was looking for the Black Sky tiger beetle - C. nigrocoerulea on the mud flats of the overflow of the lake at Hamilton Co. State Park. Finding a Black Sky population in western KS would be a great find. Here is a photo I took in CO. Habitat is alkaline/saline low areas.
