Not contigua which has the yellow side stripes on thorax to transverse suture only. To be certain of the species of the group with the yellow stripe extending to posterior callus, male genitalia have to be studied and females at present only identifiable if found in cop with an identified male. Safe in Sphaerophoria.

Hi Bill,
I made my assumption based on the three illustrated species of Sphaerophoria in Ontario (as per the guide), but I can see now that there are 13 spp. in North America, incl. many without images.
