Latrodectus geometricus? - Neoscona arabesca - male

Latrodectus geometricus? - Neoscona arabesca - Male
Dudley, Laurens County, Georgia, USA
September 24, 2017
Size: approx. 5 mm BL
I was somewhat surprised to see this guy given the habit of females eating mates. I found him just outside one of the spiderlings' killing grounds. I don't know if he is the pater of the spiderlings, which, in my experience, would be unusual in that male spiders just don't hang around to see the young 'uns hatch and grow. Is that normal behaviour for male Latrodectus? The female has not made a showing so I assume she is dead or dying since the spiderlings hatched out and are taking care of themselves...

Sorry, guys, this is as dorsal
as he would allow. He was a few feet over my head and refused to come any lower, probably due to the crowd of Latrodectus spiderlings just about a foot away.

This appears to be a male Orb Weaver to us
Do you have a dorsal image you can add?
