Tiger Spiketail, second state record! - Cordulegaster erronea - female

Tiger Spiketail, second state record! - Cordulegaster erronea - Female
Amherst, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
June 25, 2017
My wife, son, and I were walking to the local swimming hole when I noticed a dragonfly lying on the asphalt of the road. This is unusual enough, but then I recognized the species of the dragonfly, and just about wet myself! There is only one prior record of this species in the state, from Berkshire County. The dragon was still alive when I found it, but just barely, and died before we got home an hour or so later. I still have the specimen at this time, slightly degraded but acetoned to prevent further degradation; I am planning to deposit it in the entomology collection at UConn or possibly UMass. These photos have already been uploaded to Odonata Central.
