Rove bug? with mites -
Nicrophorus tomentosus
Allegan County, Michigan, USA
October 3, 2017
Size: ~25mm
This large black beetle-y thing buzzed me in the house. When captured it emitted a rank smell, like musty rotting meat, and I noticed it was covered with some kind of mites.

Musty, rotting meat is the dinner of choice!
The mites are more than likely phoretic, hitching a ride to next carcass.
