I observed this fly perched in some cattails on the east side of White Pine Reservoir.

It reminds me of

Eristalis fly
I was using my 80-400mm lens instead of my normal macro 28-300mm and this was the only shot I got of it. I have cropped the same image at your request but whether it will tell you enough to be able to ID it is up to you.
