wasp - Vespula maculifrons

wasp - Vespula maculifrons
riverview, ALBERT County, New Brunswick, Canada
October 13, 2017
Is this an ordinary everyday Vespidae or a special species. This is from an underground nest beside a heavily used walkway with no sign of any aggression from the wasps which seems so out of character this time of year.
