Asilid - Psilocurus nudiusculus - Female
Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
August 6, 2017
Assuming this is also Psilocurus nudiusculus based on the others found at same site same day. Confirmation/correction appreciated.

I saw and photographed 2 instances of these preying on lep caterpillars.

Have
never seen any robber take a grounded cat. Did it snatch them directly off the leaves and stems?

not sure
I should have used the word 'feeding' as I did not actually witness the prey capture. Also saw one feeding on a salticid. Will post soon.

Now that we know where to find good numbers (Yellowthroat trail @ Resaca de la Palma SP) someone with good video skills needs to go and properly document their behavior on video. I almost got a photo of a mating pair. I was too drained from the intense heat when I saw them though, so not quick enough in my movement.

Maybe after I retire I will move down there for a spell. ;-)
