These are shots of a Velvet Ant that I believe is a female Dasymutilla heliophila.

Keying to Genus in the Family Mutillidae: (1)
1 - (Gender) 10 flagellomeres and 6 abdominal segments, female ♀ = 2
2 - Pronotum and mesonotum fused; hind coxa without dorsal lamella; felt line on lateral margin of tergite T2 present = 5
5 - Metasoma petiolate, with a definite constriction between the first two segments = 13
13 - Felt line present on tergite T2; petiole not transverse or parallel sided; eyes circular to slightly ovate = 14
14 - Tergite T1 without plumose setae = 20
20 - Pygidial area well defined; petiole not disciform = genus Dasymutilla Ashmead 1899
